Guwahati: As many as two motorcycle riders sustained grievous injuries in a wild rhino attack in Kaziranga of Assam on Thursday.
The incident occurred at Haldhibari corridor near Kohora range.
The rhino attacked a father-son duo when they were traveling from Tezpur and were heading towards Jorhat on their two-wheeler.
Both father and son were injured in the rhino attack.
However, it has come to light that the son identified as Gyanam Mahanta sustained severe injuries.
The duo was immediately shifted to Jorhat hospital where they are currently receiving treatment.
A person familiar with the incident said, “Today at around 7.30 am in the morning two people were attacked by a rhino at Haldhibari animal corridor area. They were coming in from Tezpur and were traveling on a bike.”
“Both of them were injured with the child, Gyanam Mahanta sustaining grave injuries. They were given first aid at Kohora medical and were then referred to Jorhat Medical College,” he added.
It needs to be noted that animal attacks have increased in the recent past, resulting in human casualties that occur either when a giant mammal enters a residential colony or when it attacks the people who enter the forests due to varied reasons.
