Delhi CM Summoned by CBI in Liquor Policy Case on Sunday
Guwahati: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been summoned in for interrogation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday in connection with the ongoing investigation into alleged corruption in the liquor licencing policy.
Section 144 was implemented in the region and security was stepped up outside the CBI headquarters in Delhi with the deployment of over 1,000 police personnel in order to avoid huge gatherings.
Several people were detained as a result of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) members’ protests against Kejriwal’s interrogation.
Moreover, security was increased in front of the AAP office on Rouse Avenue.
The similar case led to the arrest of Manish Sisodia, Kejriwal’s deputy, last month. The AAP has called the accusations false and described them as a plot against its leaders.
Kejriwal was sent a CBI notice requiring him to show up in their office on Sunday at 11 am.
The probe agency is looking into claims that retailers of alcoholic beverages paid bribes to get licences.
Opposition parties have accused the AAP of corruption and power abuse in response to the case, which has sparked political controversy. The central government has allegedly been utilising the CBI to target the AAP’s leaders, according to the AAP.
Kejriwal will appear before the CBI at the same time that his party is preparing for the forthcoming Delhi Municipal Corporation polls. The outcome of the case will probably have a big influence on the AAP’s chances of winning elections.
Several other AAP leaders including former Delhi Minister and top AAP leader Satyendar Jain, have already been questioned by the CBI in connection with the issue. More arrests might come as a result of the ongoing investigation.
