India surpassed China to become world’s most populous country
Guwahati: India has officially surpassed China as the world’s most populated nation, according to the data provided by the United Nations.
India now has 1428.6 million inhabitants, compared to China’s 1425.7 million, according to the world population dashboard.
It should be noted that India topped the UN’s list of most populous nations for the first time this year. Since 1950, the UN has been compiling statistics on the population.
China’s population decreased in 2017 for the first time since 1960. As the workforce ages and childbearing rates fall, the nation confronts an impending demographic decline.
On the other hand, United States is in third place with a projected population of 340 million.
India has not conducted a census since 2011, hence there are no current, official figures on the country’s population number.
The census that was supposed to take place in 2021 has been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile, the population of the world is projected to reach 8.045 billion by mid-2023.
