Guwahati: Two young women were harassed by a group of individuals along the Beki River bridge on National Highway 31 in Barpeta Road of Assam in a case of moral policing.
The women were attacked by the mob after they were accused of engaging in immoral behaviour at a local dhaba.
Reports claim that the women were pulled out of the dhaba and subjected to verbal abuse as well as physical violence by members of the public for engaging in immoral acts there. The mob then started breaking inside the dhaba and looting the place.
The men also beat up a customer who was even in the dhaba.
However, the promptness of a few youths managed to save the two young women in some way.
One of the two young women hails from Rangia and other from Pathshala.
The girls were later handed over to Barpeta Road police.
Meanwhile, people are waiting to see what measures the police will take against those who have taken control of the law.
