Storm Kills Man in Assam’s Namrup

Guwahati: In yet another tragic incident, a man was allegedly killed in a storm while riding his motorcycle at Dibrugarh district of Assam.

The incident took place at Namrup Nigam Tinali of the district.

The biker reportedly lost control of his vehicle during the violent storm and collided with a tree and then fell to the ground.

The victim has been identified as Subedi Satya.

Following the incident, Satya was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services.

Satya was a resident of Namrup Rukong Tea Estate.

The authorities have advised drivers to use caution while driving in such hazardous weather conditions to prevent similar catastrophes.

In the past 48 hours, Assam has seen damaging hailstorms together with torrential rains, particularly in the districts of Tinsukia, Dibrugarh and Hojai.

A report from the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) states that a damaging storm last night affected a total of 41,410 persons in 144 villages across seven districts.

Of the 41,410, 37,182 Tinsukia residents from Assam were impacted in 54 villages, and two deaths were also reported.

Although there have been no indications of crop loss, the horrific natural catastrophe last night left 208 residents (from both kutcha and pucca) entirely ruined and as many as 675 houses (both kutcha and pucca) partially damaged.
