Assam CM Sarma Shares Glimpse Into Rang Ghar Beautification Project
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma provided a sneak preview of the planned Rang Ghar beautification project, calling it an example of the “best of Ahom architecture.”
Sharing a video on Twitter, he wrote, “Rang Ghar represents the best of Ahom architecture. Sharing some glimpses of the iconic monument’s upcoming beautification project, which was launched by Hon’ble PM.”
On the northwest side of the famous Rang Ghar, 26 acres will be developed by the state government into a popular tourism site.
An artisan village, guest accommodation, and tourist information centre would be part of the 124-crore project. Visitors can also enjoy the amphitheatre, boat house, and sound and light show.
The ‘Colosseum of the East’, Rang Ghar is regarded as one of the oldest still-standing amphitheatres in Asia. The monument was built in 1746 AD, during the reign of the Ahoms.
Assam places a great deal of historical significance on it since it captures the elegance and accuracy of earlier architecture.
Rang Ghar was constructed and used as a royal sports pavilion during Swargdeo Pramtta Singha’s rule.
The 33rd National Games were held in Assam in 2007, and Rang Ghar served as the official logo.
