Guwahati: Following a complaint against senior ACS official Mukul Kathar, the Assam Police announced on Monday that they are making efforts to find him after he was charged with physically assaulting members of his wife’s family.
A squad was despatched to Mukul Kathar’s home to arrest him shortly after the complaint was filed, but he was not there, Diphu Superintendent of Police (SP) said during a press conference.
“Later we came to know that he has left Diphu and is currently staying in Guwahati. We are trying to make strategies to nab him,” he said.
The police seized the pistol that was used to shoot blank shots in front of his wife’s maternal home.
In addition, all departments under his supervision have exempted ACS Kathar.
The Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) in a notice dated April 24 reads, “In supersession of all the earlier Orders in this regard, the authority of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, Diphu is pleased to allot the following Subjects/Departments to the Secretaries/Joint Secretaries/Deputy Secretaries/ Under Secretaries/Officers of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Secretariat with immediate effect until further orders.”
Notably, Mukul Kathar was the subject of two FIRs, one by his wife and the other by his sister-in-law.
A senior ACS officer in Diphu, Assam, was charged with physical assault on April 22 by members of his wife’s family.
Mukul Kathar, a senior ACS officer, was charged with violently abusing his wife’s older sister.
In a statement to the media, the older sister said that at around 6.20 pm, Kathar approached her near a shop while she was in a car. He then allegedly opened the door and beat her while searching for his wife, Lindali Terangpi.
He demanded to know Lindali’s whereabouts and threatened to put himself in a terrible situation if he didn’t find her.
Not only that, but Lindali also filed a FIR against him the following day when he was accused of firing blank shots close to his wife’s maternal home.
Meanwhile, Mukul Kathar, an ACS officer, was charged with physical assault at Diphu Police Station by Lindali’s older sister.
It should be noted that Mukul Kathar served as the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council’s (KAAC) Secretary to the Chief Executive Member and oversaw a number of crucial council departments.
