Major Fire Guts Apartment In Guwahati’s Bhetapara
Guwahati: A massive fire that completely gutted a flat that broke out on Tuesday in Bhetapara area of Guwahati.
According to preliminary reports, the fire erupted in the Pragjyotish Housing Complex in Guwahati’s Bhetapara locality. Flames engulfed the residence of Sadananda Das in the housing complex.
As per the information received, an earthen lamp that was lighted inside the home started to catch fire, causing the entire structure to burn down.
The fire’s property damages were estimated by officials to be in the lakhs. Three fire tenders were dispatched to the location of the fire shortly after it started.
The victim whose home burned down said that the residential complex lacked the bare minimum in terms of fire protection equipment and safeguards. She said that if the flat had been equipped with the necessary fire protection measures, the fire would not have worsened.
She said, “The wirings of this building are very old. There is also no fire safety measures installed in the building. Today I had lit the prayer lamp and went to drop my daughter to school when the fire broke out from the lamp.”
Moreover, she alleged that the emergency services were also late in arriving to the call for help. “By the time the fire tenders reached, my house was entirely gutted,” she added.
