Guwahati: Following the filing of a case in an alleged MPLAD money scam against Rajya Sabha MP Ajit Bhuyan, the MP said on Wednesday that a plot has been devised against him.
While speaking to media, MP Bhuyan said, “This is not a new thing for me. I do not wish to say anything in this matter as I have to go through the papers first because before this, commenting on the matter will not be justified.”
“I would like to say that it is a conspiracy against me. The guidelines clearly state where and how MP funds will be spent. There is nothing for me to worry about. These kinds of cases will not stop me from raising my voices to any kind of injustice.”
Notably, the Members of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) fund fraud in Assam was the subject of a case filed against MP Ajit Bhuyan and 13 others on Tuesday by the Chief Minister’s Vigilance Cell.
The CM’s supervision cell had filed the complaint with the court of the special judge. The complaint involves accusations of fraud and corruption.
High-ranking officials like ACS Sharmistha Bora and Hemanta Dutta are among those who have been charged.
At least four ACS officers were suspended earlier on March 18 in connection to the MPLAD funds scam.
Reports claim that money from MP Bhuyan’s MPLAD fund was given to build a road in Barpeta of Assam. However, the law wasn’t released until just 75% of the work had been done.
The scam came to light after an inquiry by the CM’s Special Vigilance unit revealed that the four suspended officers signed the bill before 75% of the road construction work was completed.
The MP Construction Fund Committee was chaired by Additional Commissioner of Kamrup Sukanya Bora.
It should be noted that the MPLAD Fund of Rajya Sabha Member Ajit Kumar Bhuyan provided funding of Rs. 28 lakhs for the development of three roads in Barpeta.
However, the allocated funds were taken out by submitting fictitious bills for the building of the three highways, which were never built.
