The new feature will enable users to freely link any device with WhatsApp and ensure end-to-end encryption of messages, media, and calls, according to the Meta-owned platform.
WhatsApp said in a blog on Tuesday, “Last year, we introduced the ability for users globally to message seamlessly across all their devices, whiel maintaining the same level of privacy and security. Today, we are improving our multi-device offering further by introducing the abilityto use the same WhatsApp account on multiple phones.”
Now, users may change phones without signing out and continue their conversations where they left off. All companion devices connected to the WhatsApp user’s account will automatically log out if the primary device is dormant for a long time. According to WhatsApp, users will find messaging more comfortable if they link their phones as companion devices. This would allow users to switch between devices without logging out and continue conversations where they left off.
Users of WhatsApp Web can enter their phone numbers to get a one-time code in place of scanning a QR code. Then, to enable device connectivity, they can enter this code on their phone. An “alternative and more accessible” method of connecting companion devices has been announced by the messaging platform. Within the next two weeks, any user will be able to access the new function, which has been pushed out globally.
Following the announcement of the new WhatsApp function, Twitter was flooded with amusing memes about the subject.
