Guwahati: Srinivas Bhadravathi Venkata, national president of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC), has been listed as “absconding” by the Assam Police.
The former women president of the Assam Pradesh Youth Congress, Angkita Dutta, filed a harassment complaint and Dutta asked the IYC national president to appear at the Dispur Police Station on May 2 for questioning.
Moitrayee Deka, additional deputy commissioner of police (East Guwahati), requested Srinivas BV’s appearance for questioning on May 2 (Tuesday) at 11:00 am in a notice dated April 23.
“It is revealed that there are reasonable grounds to question you to ascertain facts and circumstances from you, in relation to the present investigation. Hence, you are directed to appear before me at 11:00AM on 02/05/2023 (Tuesday) at Dispur police station, Guwahati police commissionerate, Kamrup (metro),” the notice issued by ADCP Maitreyi Deka read.
Srinivas BV’s request for bail in connection with the case was earlier today refused by the Karnataka Sessions Court. Srinivas BV petitioned the Karnataka court to overturn a FIR that Angkita Dutta had filed against him, accusing him of upsetting her modesty and pestering her. The Gauhati High Court had rejected his request for any temporary relief, thus he had to do so. Srinivas had sought bail in connection with the case, but the court rejected his application after hearing arguments from the special public prosecutor Makhan Phukan.
