Assam: Former BJP MLA Joy Ram Engleng Resigns

Guwahati: Former BJP MLA from Assam, Joy Ram Engleng has resigned from the organisation on Monday. In a letter delivered today, Engleng formally submitted his resignation to state party chief Bhabesh Kalita.

Engleng represented the Howraghat constituency in the Karbi Anglong district of Assam. He had defeated his Congress opponent by a margin of 6,391 votes to win the seat in the 2016 Assembly elections.

The ticket was instead handed to Darsing Ronghang for the 2019 state Assembly elections. Over 20,000 votes went in favour of Ronghang for the assembly seat.

While the reason for his exit is yet to be established, it is believed that he may have quit the saffron party as he did not receive a ticket to contest in the 2019 assembly polls.
