Guwahati: Assam has a substantially higher school dropout rate than the national average, both at the primary and secondary levels, reveals recent data.
This was discovered as a result of a report released in February of this year by the ministry of education’s department of school education and literacy.
According to the data, Assam has a higher secondary school dropout rate between 2017–18 and 2021–22 than the rest of the country.
Assam had a secondary school dropout rate of 33.7 in 2017–18, which was higher than the national average of 18.9.
Assam’s secondary school dropout rates were: 31.5 in 2018–19 compared to the national average of 17.9; 32.3 in 2019–20 compared to the national average of 16.1; 30.3 in 2020–21 compared to the national average of 14; and 20.3 in 2021–22 compared to the national average of 12.6 in the following four years.
At the primary level, Assam has the highest dropout rate in the nation at 10.1%, which is higher than the national average dropout rates of 3.5 in 2017–18, 3.1 in 2018–19, 4.5 in 2019–20, 4.3 in 2019–20, 3.3 in 2020–21, and 1.5 in 2021–22.
