Guwahati: A pall of gloom descended on Nayapathan area under Karimganj district of Assam after two lower primary school students died after drowning in a pond on Wednesday.
As per initial reports, the students were taking bath in the pond sfter returning home from school when the mishap occurred.
The childrens had gone to take bath in a pond when they slipped into deep water and drowned.
Local residents rushed to site after getting information tried their best to save the duo but informed Badarpur Police Station when they failed in their attempt after which the dead body of deceased students had been fished from the pond by police with the help of a local Village Defense Party (VDP).
The dead body of the duo was later sent to Karinganj Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination.
The children’s have been identified as Rustara Begum (14) and Nazira Begum (10).
Both the children were students of 203 No. Nayapathan LPS in Badarpur.
