Guwahati: Gauhati High Court on Wednesday rejected an anticipatory bail request made by ACS officer Sharmistha Borah, who was one of the officers implicated in the Members of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) fund corruption case brought by Rajya Sabha MP Ajit Kumar Bhuyan.
The Secretary of the Assam Government’s Home and Political Department was ACS officer Sharmistha Borah.
The court has ordered the police to produce a case diary for the case’s permanent bail hearing, which will take place on May 22.
Public prosecutor Makhan Phookan made an argument on behalf of the government before the court in the case.
The four suspended ACS officers from the MPLAD fund fraud made an appearance before the CM Special Vigilance in Assam on Tuesday.
A financial scam in Assam led to the suspension of ACS personnel on March 18.
Sources claim that the funds from MP Bhuyan’s MPLAD fund was given to the Barpeta of Assam, road construction project. However, the bill was released without 75% of the work being finished.
The scam came to light after an inquiry by the CM’s Special Vigilance unit revealed that the four suspended officers signed the bill before 75% of the road construction work was finished.
The following are the four ACS officers who were suspended:
- Home and Political Department, Assam, Secretary Sharmistha Borah
- Additional Commissioner of Kamrup Metropolitan Sukanya Borah, Hemanta Kumar Dutta
- Tinsukia Zila Parishad CEO Munindra Bordoloi
It should be noted that the MPLAD Fund of Rajya Sabha Member Ajit Kumar Bhuyan provided funding of Rs. 28 lakhs for the development of three roads in Barpeta.
