Guwahati: The anticipatory bail request of two more ACS officers charged in Rajya Sabha MP Ajit Kumar Bhuyan’s Members of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) fund scam was denied by the Gauhati High Court on Thursday. The two ACS officers were Sukanya Borah and Hemanta Kumar Dutta, Additional Commissioners for Kamrup Metropolitan.
The court earlier on Wednesday denied the request for release made by ACS officer Sharmistha Borah, who was further complicit in the fund scam. She served as the Assam Government’s Secretary for the Home and Political Department.
According to reports, Sharmistha Borah showed up at the CM Special Vigilance in Assam today to be questioned on the MPLAD fund fraud.
The court has ordered the police to produce a case diary for the permanent bail hearing that will take place in this matter on May 22.
A financial scam in Assam led to the suspension of ACS personnel on March 18.
Reports claim that money from MP Bhuyan’s MPLAD fund was given to the Barpeta, Assam, road construction project. However, the bill was published without 75% of the work being finished.
The scam came to light after an inquiry by the CM’s Special Vigilance unit revealed that the four suspended officers signed the bill before 75% of the road construction work was finished.
The following are the four ACS officers who were suspended:
- Home and Political Department, Assam, Secretary Sharmistha Borah
- Additional Commissioner of Kamrup Metropolitan Sukanya Borah, Hemanta Kumar Dutta
- Tinsukia Zila Parishad CEO Munindra Bordoloi
