Guwahati: In a tragic incident, a school headmaster was killed in a road mishap at Tinsukia district of Assam on Wednesday night.
The incident took place at Doom Dooma of the district.
The deceased has been identified as Pankaj Bhattacharya, was the headmaster of Budlabeta Tea Garden Primary School.
According to reports, Bhattacharya was returning home from a wedding reception when he lost control of his scooter and slammed into a large pile of sand that was being stored for the rehabilitation of a nearby sewer.
Due to the impact, he was flung off his scooter and died on the spot, reports stated.
Later, local police arrived at the spot and recovered the body for an autopsy.
It should be noted that Bhattacharya participated actively in social activities and was a member of the Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha.
A pall of gloom has descended upon the region following his demise as he was a well-respected individual among the students as well as locals.
