Child Abuse Case: CM Seeks Charge Sheet From Assam Police Within 6 Months

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has directed Assam Police to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the alleged child abuse case in Guwahati and to wrap it up within the next six months.

The chief minister has also asked the Assam police to submit the charge sheet within the next 45 days.

Furthermore, he promised to ask the chief judge of the Gauhati High Court for a special court to hear the matter of alleged child abuse.

“I am personally monitoring this child abuse case, and I believe the investigation will be completed within the next six months. The couple has been slapped with various sections including sections under the POCSO act. I will personally write to the chief justice of Gauhati High Court seeking a special court for the trial of this case. I have directed the Assam police to file the charge sheet within a month or the next 45 days,” said the chief minister.

In a press conference earlier on Sunday, the Guwahati Commissioner of Police, Diganta Barah, said that the victim girl’s medical reports are very concerning and that the police will thus seek the appointment of a Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) to establish the case in court.

Following the filing of the charge sheet, the police official stated that they would also make a plea before the Gauhati High Court through the state of Assam in order to guarantee a prompt trial in the alleged child abuse case.
