Interim Bail Plea of ACS Officer Mukul Kathar dismissed by Gauhati HC

Guwahati: The interim bail plea of ACS officer Mukul Kathar, who has been charged with domestic violence in Assam’s Karbi Anglong was dismissed by the Gauhati High Court on Monday. Mukul Kathar is still absconding and police are continuing their efforts to nab him.

The court has ordered the police to provide a case diary in connection with the alleged domestic violence complaint brought against Mukul Kathar.

Mukul Kathar served as the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council’s (KAAC) Secretary to the Chief Executive Member and oversaw a number of crucial council departments.

Following the allegations made against him, he was subsequently exempted from all departments under his supervision and removed from the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC).

Notably, two FIRs had been lodged against Mukul Kathar, one by his wife and the other by his sister-in-law.

The senior ACS officer in Assam’s Diphu was charged with assault on April 22 by members of his wife’s family. He allegedly physically assaulted his wife’s elder sister.

In a statement to the media, the elder sister said that at 6.20 pm, Kathar approached her near a shop where she was sitting in a vehicle. He allegedly opened the door and beat her while searching for his wife identified as Lindali Terangpi.

He threatened her with harsh conditions if he didn’t find Lindali while enquiring about her whereabouts.

Not only that, but Lindali also filed a FIR against him the following day when he was accused of firing blank shot close to his wife’s maternal home.

On the day of the incident, Lindali’s elder sister filed a police report at Diphu Police Station accusing ACS officer Mukul Kathar of assault.
