Guwahati: A large number of students and their parents are eagerly awaiting the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) results for the class XII and class X board exams. But on Wednesday, a bogus letter that said the results would be announced on Thursday spread across multiple WhatsApp groups, confusing and worrying both students and instructors.
The letter, which featured a forged signature of CBSE director (academics) Joseph Emmanuel, gave a URL where students could verify their results, according to media sources. The results of both classes are in the last stages of preparation and are anticipated to be released this week, according to the CBSE authorities, who quickly deemed the letter to be a fake.
After being posted on WhatsApp, the fake letter quickly went viral, surprising CBSE officials and leading other board-affiliated institutions to question its validity.
Such a letter has been distributed before; one with a forged signature of CBSE secretary Anurag Tripathi was distributed in 2020. To avoid any misunderstandings this year, the CBSE has sent a circular to all principals and heads of schools that are associated with it outlining how pupils would be able to obtain their mark sheets, certificates, and other pertinent papers for the 2023 board exams.
The circular notes that, in order to increase the security and privacy of student data, CBSE implemented a 6-digit security pin-based activation for digilocker accounts last year.
The circular notes that the student-specific security pin file is being made available to schools through their digilockers accounts, from which schools can download and distribute security pins to individual students, as the board exam results are soon to be announced. It is anticipated that this procedure will safeguard the security and privacy of the students while streamlining the distribution of their diplomas and grade reports.
The CBSE authorities have acknowledged that the process of preparing the results for both classes is nearing completion while reiterating that they do not announce the date of revealing the results in advance.
The CBSE, Prayagraj, regional officer (RO), Lalit K. Kapil, has announced that the board will announce the results very soon. While stressing the importance of exercising caution and scepticism when it comes to false information and rumours, the CBSE circular has helped to clarify how to acquire mark sheets and certificates for the students and parents who are eagerly awaiting the results.
