Defamation case against Ranjan Gogoi filed by APW President for Rs. 1 cr

Guwahati: Assam Public Works (APW) president Abhijeet Sharma has sued the former Chief Justice of India, Ranjan Gogoi, for defamation for a sum of Rs. 1 crore, Ranjan Gogoi, reports emerged on Thursday.

According to reports, Sharma, who had previously spoken out against a large fraud in the National Register of Citizens (NRC) Assam that went by the guise of family tree verification, also petitioned to have Gogoi’s book “Justice for the Judge: An Autobiography” banned on the grounds that it contains numerous obscene references.

The Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid case was decided by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi.

It should be noted that Ranjan Gogoi was already accused of obstructing the inquiry into the enormous NRC fraud.

Hitesh Dev Sarma, the former state coordinator for NRC in Assam, claimed that he had created obstacles during the selection process for the position.

Hitesh Dev Sarma was chosen to take over as the State coordinator of the Assam NRC after Prateek Hajela, who is now involved in a case before the Kamrup (Metro) chief judicial magistrate’s court, was transferred.
