Guwahati: Tragedy struck Dhupdhara at Mariampur in Goalpara district of Assam after allegedly devouring Chalani fish during a feast on Wednesday. One person died and more than 200 had serious illnesses.
According to reports, a prayer meeting and feast were held on Wednesday in the home of a Garo community member in the Mariampur village bordering Meghalaya.
Men, women, and children who were killed apparently consumed fish that was bought at a nearby market.
Renu Sangma died at the Goalpara Civil Hospital on Thursday evening as a result of food poisoning.
The other patients have been brought to various hospitals for treatment because they have been in excruciating pain ever since eating the fish.
Currently, 13 patients are being admitted to Goalpara Civil Hospital, 74 patients are being treated at Rangjuli Hospital, 27 patients are being treated at Dudhnoi Hospital, and 141 patients are being treated at Dhupdhara Adarsh Hospital. Additionally, three of them have been brought to the ICU and are in critical condition.
