Guwahati: The imprisonment of Imran Khan, a former prime minister of Pakistan, has been deemed “illegal” by that nation’s Supreme Court. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Khan was produced in court today, and it is anticipated that he would be released shortly.
Khan allegedly informed the court that he was “abducted” from the grounds of the Islamabad high court and was also struck with sticks.
A three-judge panel that included Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, and Justice Athar Minallah issued the ruling. They expressed rage at the way Khan was removed from the high court’s grounds in Islamabad and brought into detention.
According to a local media report, CJP Bandial called Khan’s detention outside of the courthouse a shame to the nation’s justice system.
After being produced before the court, the bench resumed the hearing of the case.
“It is good to see you,” Bandial told Khan.
“We believe that Imran Khan’s arrest was illegal,” the top judge said.
Furthermore, CJP Bandial ordered Khan to urge his supporters to refrain from further acts of violence and to maintain peace throughout the nation. Khan promised the court that his party members would maintain peace and prevent any harm from being done to the nation, adding that he had no idea what had transpired following his arrest.
Imran Khan was taken into custody on Tuesday in connection with a corruption case on instructions from the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). He was forcibly taken into custody while on the grounds of the Islamabad High Court, when he was there for biometrics prior to a corruption case hearing.
Following this, the nation was claimed to have experienced massive violent protests by the previous prime minister’s followers.
