Mallikarjun Kharge Appoints 3 Observers Ahead of CLP Meet

Guwahati: Three observers have been appointed by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge to monitor the election of the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader in Karnataka.

Former Maharashtra chief minister Sushilkumar Shinde, party officials Jitendra Singh, and Deepak Babaria have been designated by Kharge as observers for the CLP meeting.

Announcing this, Congress general secretary KC Venugopal took to Twitter and wrote, “Hon’ble Congress President has deputed Shri. Sushilkumar Shinde (Former Chief Minister, Maharashtra), Shri. Jitendra Singh (AICC GS) and Shri. Deepak Babaria (former AICC GS) as observers for the election of the CLP Leader of Karnataka.”

With a majority of 136 seats in the 224-member legislature, the Congress won the Karnataka assembly elections on Saturday and took back control of the state.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is currently in power in the state, was reduced to only 65 seats, according to figures from the Election Commission of India (ECI), while Janata Dal (Secular) only won 19 seats. On the other side, independent candidates gained two seats, while the Sarvodaya Karnataka Paksha and Kalyana Rajya Pragathi Paksha each took home one.
