Assam: 60,000 Yaba Tablets Seized In Separate Ops; 3 Arrested

Guwahati: In two separate operations in Assam’s Cachar and Hailakandi districts, Assam police and the Border Security Force (BSF) collaborated to seize a substantial quantity of illegal drugs.

Regarding the seizures, three people were taken into custody.

Following a nighttime operation in the Cachar area, security forces captured two people and seized 40,000 Yaba tablets on Sunday morning.

The illegal substances were discovered on the outskirts of Silchar.

The two people who were arrested have been identified as Saharul Islam Mazumder (31) and Samir Hussain Laskar alias Babul (45), both of them are from the Berenga area of Silchar.

The cost of the pharmaceuticals that were seized on the foreign market is estimated to be around 4 crore.

Another incidence included BSF soldiers who on Friday night in the Hailakandi district found 20,000 Yaba tablets and arrested a drug dealer in connection with it.

The BSF started a search operation in the Rongpur area after receiving specific information.

“An input was received by our intelligence branch regarding dealing of narcotics suspected to be Yaba tablets in Hailakandi during night hours on May 12. Accordingly, in a joint operation with the Hailakandi police, the narcotics were recovered from a house,” BSF wrote in its statement.

The arrested person has been identified as 31-year-old Alta Hussain Talukdar.

Further investigation underway.
