Assam: AASU Leaders Allegedly Attacked by Miscreants at Bihu Function

Guwahati: Situations became tense at a Bihu event the All-Assam Students’ Union (AASU) hosted in Dhemaji district of Assam on Sunday night.

According to reports, a bunch of miscreants who were allegedly intoxicated went on the rampage at AASU’s Kendriya Bohagi Bidai Utsav’s cultural function in Dhemaji’s Gogamukh. The miscreants caused a commotion by destroying numerous of the AASU leaders’ vehicles while brandishing sticks and other pointed weapons. During the programme, they allegedly also abused female participants and other AASU leaders. Reports claim that a former leader of the AASU sustained serious brain injuries after the miscreants’ attack.

The tragic incident happened while Assamese singer Rohit Sunar was performing. According to reports, the miscreants also vandalised the singer’s vehicle.

Furthermore, the miscreants allegedly inflicted damage on the AASU flag and the Assamese traditional “Japi,” insulting Assamese cultural sensitivities.

The case has been reported to the Gogamukh Police Station in a FIR.

While speaking about the incident, one of the members of the Gogamukh AASU said, “An untoward incident took place during the cultural night of the 39th Kendriya Bohagi Bidai Utsav.
