Elderly Man in Assam Loses Rs 40,000 Due to ATM Card Swap

Guwahati: An elderly man was defrauded of Rs 40,000 by an unidentified fraudster in Teok in Assam’s Jorhat district on Monday afternoon in a case of daylight robbery.

The elderly victim went to a State Bank of India (SBI) ATM in the town to get some cash when the incident happened. While this was going on, the scammer showed up at the ATM kiosk and skillfully switched the old man’s ATM card under the guise of assisting him with the ATM.

The fraudster then used the elderly man’s debit card to withdraw Rs 40,000 from another ATM. One Dharmeswar Sharma, a retired employee of the state agriculture department, has been named as the victim.

CCTV footage from the entire incident was captured.

The victim man promptly filed a complaint at Teok police station after realising he had been duped.

Police stated a manhunt has been started to find the culprit.
