Private Museum With Over 2,000 Rare Antique Items Set Up In Assam’s Golaghat

Guwahati: Pratul Bora, the brother of Assam Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, has established a private museum that houses an exceptional collection of more than 2,000 antique artefacts related to the history of Assam and the entire Northeast in his native village in the Golaghat district.

These vintage things, which Bora had gathered over the previous 16 years, include traditional musical instruments, farming implements, coins from the Ahom kingdom, and clothing from many tribes and groups in North East India.

The Borahi village in the Golaghat district now boasts a private museum. The museum was founded by Bora in honour of his grandfather, Juga Bora.

He claimed to have more than 2000 antique items in his collection, including a 400-year-old Bor Tup Cannon from the Ahom Kingdom, Naga King caps, Ahom and Jayantia Kingdom coins, Mughal coins, numerous traditional musical instruments, clothing from various tribes and communities, wooden objects, antiquated toys, ritual objects, etc.

“The Borahi Foundation has helped to establish this museum and I am the main Managing Trustee of the foundation. I have started to collect different items from 2006-07. There are more than 2000 items and many other items are coming. I have collected these items from different parts of Assam, Nagaland, and Arunachal Pradesh. Earlier, I started to collect coins and later started to collect brass metal items and other items,” Pratul Bora said.

The former director of the Archaeology department, Dr. Hemendra Nath Dutta, opened the museum on Monday at Borahi village. Along with other guests, Atul Bora, the Assam Agriculture Minister, attended the event.

Minister Atul Bora expressed his happiness at his brother’s decision to construct the museum and to officially open it today, the anniversary of his father’s birth.

“The museum has been established in the name of our grandfather Juga Bora. I hope the new generation will get benefits from it,” Atul Bora said. Locals praised Pratul Bora for his initiative in building the museum to conserve priceless antiquities.
