Dacoit Injured In Police Firing While Trying To Flee In Dhemaji

Guwahati: A suspected dacoit was injured in police action at Bongalmari village in Dhemaji district of Assam while attempting to escape from the police.

The accused identified as Keshab Nath.

As per sources, Nath was accused of an armed dacoity that occurred at Sukapha Nagar in Dhemaji on May 4.

Sources further claimed that Nath attacked the Dhemaji Police officials in order to escape custody custody when they had to resort to firing at him.

Nath was shot in his left foot while attempting to flee from the police.

As part of the inquiry, he was being accompanied by officials to Bongalmari to find a pistol that had been used by the dacoit when the incident occurred.

Having found the pistol, the accused while handing it over to the police, pointed it at them which alarmed them into action and they shot at his feet, police said.

He was immediately to the Assam Medical College and Hospital in Dibrugarh after the incident, where he is still receiving care.

It should be noted that three dacoits, among them Keshab Nath, robbed a businessman’s home in Dhemaji district of Assam during the early hours of May 4.

The incident occurred at Sukapha Nagar in Dhemaji.

Reportedly, the three-armed dacoits entered the residence of the businessman, identified as Santosh Dutta, and looted cash and gold jewellery worth lakhs from his residence.

The businessman’s family bravely apprehended one of the dacoits, Keshab Nath, and turned him over to the police as they made an attempt to flee the scene.
