Guwahati: In a significant crackdown on the smuggling of fake gold in the state, Assam Police on May 20 seized a massive consignment of fake gold worth several lakhs and Rs 6,60,000 in cash.
Gohpur Police visited at Sonapur, No. 2 in Bangalmar and seized the entire consignment.
Four people in total have been detained in this matter and an inquiry has been opened to determine whether there are any other connections to the seizure.
The detained persons have been identified as Anowara Begum, Najmol Haque and two others.
Following the passing of SI Junmoni Rabha, the Assam Police has tightened its belt to continue its campaign against the illegal smuggling of fake gold.
The untimely death of SI Junmoni Rabha in an accident has shocked the state, and there are rumours that Rabha was the target of a bigger conspiracy as a result of her efforts to stop the smuggling of fake gold.
