Guwahati: The Assam Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has frozen Rs 8,15,743 that was obtained through cyber fraud, official sources said.
According to a senior official, Tapas Gupta called the helpline at 1930 after receiving an email about claiming incentives and reporting it.
However, Rs. 37,469 was stolen from his State Bank of India (SBI) account when he clicked the link the cyber fraud supplied.
After acting immediately, the CID was able to locate and freeze the quantity.
Another incidence included Rs 7,78,27 being fraudulently taken from Mehboob Hasan Ahmed’s bank account. The money was stolen under the guise of providing an internet employment. The entire sum of money was tracked down and frozen by the CID.
Meanwhile, the CID has urged people to stay vigilant and avoid becoming a victim of cybercrimes. Along with asking users not to click any unexpected links sent via email, SMS, or WhatsApp, they also asked them not to give their OTP, CVV, PIN, or passwords with any strangers.
