Guwahati: The government declared that all drains transporting waste from hamlets along the Ganga River’s banks would be geo-tagged.
According to an official document, this decision was made to stop solid trash from entering the river. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, rural Swachh Bharat Mission (G), and urban local bodies will thereafter receive the information on the geo-tagged drains in order to take quick action.
According to reports, a senior official with the National Mission For Clean Ganga (NMCG) revealed in a meeting held last month that solid garbage was being dumped along the banks of the Ganga as a result of the construction of a tunnel at Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand. As a result, the water in the river was becoming increasingly polluted by solid trash.
Furthermore, he made note of the several spots along the Ganga’s banks where solid garbage is being discarded, which results in the debris being carried into the river’s water.
