IYC Chief Srinivas BV to Appear Before Guwahati Police Today

Guwahati: The president of the Indian Youth Congress, Srinivas Bhadravathi Venkata will appear before the Guwahati Police on Monday in relation to the harassment claim made against him by expelled Assam Youth Congress leader Angkita Dutta.

According to reports, he arrived in Guwahati around 9.30 am and subsequently appear before the police at DCP (East) office. There will also likely be a sizable contingent of congressional staffers waiting to welcome him.

Meanwhile, ahead of Srinivas BV’s anticipated visit, the Guwahati Police has enacted Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, which prohibits gatherings of more than five individuals within the city limits.

The Guwahati Police Commissioner’s office has issued an order in an effort to deal with the problems that crowding and potential unrest present.

Any sit-in protests or rally gatherings are now against the law, and the police are taking action to prevent them. The instruction, which is applicable to the city’s three police districts, denotes a complete strategy for preserving peace and safety in the public.

It should be noted that in April, the expelled Assam Pradesh Youth Congress President (AIYC), Angkita Dutta, filed a complaint at the Dispur Police Station alleging the head of the Indian Youth Congress of harassing her for the previous six months.

Dutta complained to the police that Srinivas had mentally tormented her and had spoken sexist remarks about her. She further said that he used slang and threatened to suffer serious consequences if she continued to criticise him in front of senior office holders.

Dutta also spoke of a meeting she had with him on March 25 at a hotel in Chhattisgarh, where he heckled her while gripping her arm, pulled and pushed her, and threatened to ruin her life in the Congress party using slang language.

She added that although she had told the party’s top officials, no action had been taken against Srinivas.
