Men’s Javelin Throw: Neeraj Chopra Takes World No. 1 Rank
Guwahati: Neeraj Chopra, who won a gold medal in the Tokyo Olympics, attained career-first World No. 1 status in the men’s javelin throw rankings.
With 1455 points, Neeraj Chopra outperformed Grenada’s Anderson Peters, the current world champion, to take the top spot. Anderson scored 1433 points, good for second place.
Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch, who won silver at the Tokyo Olympics, finished third with 1416 points.
Sports Authority of India (SAI) informed about Chopra’s feat through Twitter. The SAI wrote, “India’s Golden Boy is now World No. 1. Olympian @Neeraj_chopra1 attains the career-high rank to become World’s No. 1 in Men’s Javelin Throw event. Many congratulations Neeraj!”
The gold medalist from the Tokyo Olympics made history by being the first Indian to win the Diamond League Final in Zurich the previous year. The expert javelin thrower won the competition and added a new feather to his cap with a throw of 88.44 metres on his second attempt.
He will compete at the Fanny Blankers-Koen Games in the Netherlands on June 4.
