Guwahati: The chief ministers of Assam and Meghalaya are scheduled to meet in Guwahati on Wednesday to discuss the second phase of border talks to resolve the issues of the remaining six areas, which will take place fourteen months after the two governments signed an MoU to resolve interstate border disputes in six “less complicated” areas.
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma will meet his Meghalaya counterpart Conrad Sangma at State Guest House in Koinadora and the meeting is scheduled to be held at 11 am.
The six remaining areas of dispute are: Langpih, Borduar, Nongwah-Mawtamur, Desh Doomreah, Block 1 & Block II, and Psiar-Khanduli.
It should be noted that on March 29, 2022, Himanta Biswa Sarma and Conrad Sangma, the chief ministers of Assam and Meghalaya, inked a historic agreement in the presence of Union home minister Amit Shah in the nation’s capital.
The chief secretaries of both states, various state officials, and officials from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) were present when the two CMs signed the agreement.
The MoU was inked between Assam and Meghalaya after Shah was presented with a drafting resolution for review on January 31 by the chief ministers of both states.
Six of the 12 contested sites along the 884-kilometer interstate boundary had been identified by the two state governments as the subject of a draught resolution.
