Guwahati: Sivasagar MLA in Assam and Raijor Dal chief Akhil Gogoi stated on Wednesday that citizens of Assam should inquire as to what became of the report on the execution of Clause 6 of the Assam Accord that was submitted by a high-level committee chaired by retired Justice Biplab Kumar Sarma.
Speaking to the media the day before the arrival of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Akhil Gogoi emphasised the commitments he and the Prime Minister made before the elections. According to Gogoi, the BJP’s election manifesto included 10 pledges.
According to Akhil Gogoi, the BJP pledged to put Clause 6 of the Assam Accord into effect as well as to free the state of flooding. He claimed that Amit Shah had pledged to carry out Assam Accord Clause 6.
He questioned what had become of the report submitted by retired Justice B K Sarma regarding the implementation of Clause 6 after displaying video footage of the election promises made by Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Modi.
Amit Shah may be seen in a video from December 11, 2021, and PM Modi can be seen declaring the conditions of their election manifesto in a video from April 7, 2020, both shown by Akhil Gogoi.
Gogoi added that citizens of Assam shouldn’t stop remembering to ask their government these questions.
He then turned his attention to the promise of ridding Assam of its annual flood problems. “They had promised to make Assam flood-free. Did that happen? They promised to build dams to control the water of Brahmaputra River. Did that also happen?” asked Gogoi.
Meanwhile, Akhil Gogoi questioned Amit Shah on when these promises will be kept.
Akhil Gogoi said, “This government has created a major record and that is of taking fresh loans of up to Rs 43,508 crores to become the highest loan-taking government in the history of Assam.”
He said, “The prior governments had taken loans of up to Rs 41,964 crores in 69 years.”
Furthermore, he claimed that over the previous two years, the government had killed 61 people in staged encounters. He added that 145 people’s lives have been wrecked by the government.
