Guwahati: The Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption’s sleuths apprehended a Circle Inspector in Baksa district, Assam, for taking a Rs 40,000 bribe.
The accused public servant has been named as Simla, Baksa Circle Inspector Ganesh Barman.
The vigilance unit claims that Barman was caught red-handed taking a bribe of Rs 40,000 from the complainant in his office in exchange for helping out his relative in a criminal case.
“2nd trap in last 12 Hrs! @DIR_VAC_ASSAM trapped red handed Inspector Ganesh Barman, Circle Inspector, Simla, Baksa, after he accepted Rs.40,000/- in his office from the complainant for giving relief to his relative in a criminal case,” the anti-corruption cell tweeted.
In the Dhubri district of Assam last night, investigators from the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption detained a former Home Guard and a Sub-Inspector (SI) of the Assam police on bribery accusations.
Rahizuddin Ahmed, the SI who was apprehended, worked in Dhubri’s Bilasipara PS. Sonaruddin Sheikh, on the other hand, has been recognised as the former Home Guard.
The two were detained because they demanded and accepted bribe money in exchange for sending a case diary to court.
