Assam: Numaligarh Refinery Fire Brought Under Control In Golaghat
Guwahati: A massive fire that erupted at the Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) in Assam’s Golaghat district has been bought under control, reports emerged.
NRL experienced a fire issue in the vessel VV-4 of their Hydrocracker unit on monday night at about 7:20 p.m.
Quick action from the refinery’s firefighting members effectively overcome the blaze. Fortunately, there haven’t been any reports of casualties or injuries from the incident.
Additionally, the explosion was so large that it could be felt up to seven kms distant from the refinery. Following the incident, workers at the refinery rushed out of the gates in large groups, according to site reports.
From the last week of March, the Numaligarh Refinery had been shut down for maintenance and repairs. According to Madhuchanda Adhikary, Senior Manager of Corporate Communication at NRL, the plant-wise startup procedure started on May 15th, and the Hydrocracker unit is currently in the stabilisation phase.
NRL officials have reassured the public that they are diligently working to determine the primary cause of the fire and take the necessary steps to prevent similar events in the future. The cause of the fire is now being investigated. It has been acknowledged that the safety procedures and quick action of the refinery staff prevented any injuries and minimised the possible damage.
