Odisha Health Minister Visits Injured Victims Of Train Tragedy
Guwahati: Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya paid a visit to the injured victims of the triple train tragedy in Cuttack on Sunday, three days after the devastating train incident in Odisha.
Mandaviya saw the injured passengers at the Srirama Chandra Bhanja Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack accompanied by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
After speaking with the injured passengers, the cabinet ministers met with medical professionals from SCB Medical College and Hospital and AIIMS, Bhubaneswar.
A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigation into the Odisha train tragedy, which claimed 275 lives, was requested by the Railway Board in the interim.
While speaking to media persons, Ashwini Vaishnaw said, “Keeping in view the way the train accident happened, and looking at the conditions and according to the administrative information, The Railway Board has recommended the probe to the CBI.”
“The rescue operations have been completed and restoration works are underway. The work related to the track is done and overhead wiring work is going on. Patients are also undergoing treatment at hospitals,” Vaishnaw added.
The Balasore train tragedy was caused by a change in “electronic interlocking,” according to a statement made by the railway minister earlier in the day. A system of signal equipment called an electronic interlocking prevents trains from moving in opposition to one another along a network of lines. Essentially, it is a safety mechanism to stop signals from being changed in the wrong order. This system’s goal is to prevent a train from moving forward until the safety of the route has been established.
