Delhi Police submits final report asking for POCSO case against WFI chief to dropped

Guwahati: The Delhi Police requested the dismissal of a case brought against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in a final report submitted on Thursday to a Delhi court

According to reports, the police claimed that there was no proof to back up the claims of sexual harassment against Singh made by a young female wrestler.

The minor initially accused Singh of abusing her sexually, but later changed her story and claimed that she was depressed and brought the lawsuit out of rage. The complainant, the victim’s father, and the victim herself provided statements that served as the basis for the police report.

The issue will be taken up again by the court on July 4.

Singh was accused of sexual harassment, stalking, and using criminal force against a woman with the purpose to offend her modesty in another case that was brought against him by other female wrestlers. Vinod Tomar, the WFI’s suspended assistant secretary, was also charged with aiding and abetting.

The wrestlers demanded Singh be fired from the WFI after they claimed he had been harassing them sexually since 2012. On April 23, they had also organised a demonstration in front of the WFI office in Delhi.

Singh had refuted the charges and said that his competitors were behind the framing. Furthermore, he had stated that he would work to modify the POCSO Act because of the widespread abuse it was experiencing.
