Prime Accused in Death of BJP Leader Jonali Nath Misleads CID Assam

Guwahati: In a significant development, it was discovered that the main suspect in the death of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader had lied to the Assam Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

As a piece of wood with bloodstains was found at the apartment of the accused and is believed to be the murder weapon used to kill the BJP leader Jonali Nath, sources said that the confessions made by the main accused, Hasanur Islam, were proved to be fraudulent.

The murder weapon was confiscated by the police and sent for analysis.

Notably, under questioning by the CID, Hasanur Islam admitted to having an illicit contact with the murdered BJP leader.

While addressing a press conference, IGP CID Debaraj Upadhyaya said, “The accused has confessed that he killed the woman and dumped her body on the National Highway on Sunday night. The victim had an illicit relationship with the accused for the past two years and was supposed to get married to another woman. To discuss on this and their relationship, the victim had expressed her wiliness to meet with him once. Accordingly, he visited her and they met inside a car. There was a heated argument between the two, after which the accused beat her roughly on the neck, then grabbed her with his bare hands and strangled her to death. The same has been confirmed by the forensic doctors.”

The husband of Jonali Nath filed a complaint against the IGP for his comments a few hours after the news conference.

A First Information Report (FIR) was filed at the Matia Police Station by Jonali Nath’s husband, Chandra Kumar Nath, in response to comments made by IGP Debraj Upadhyaya that the deceased had an extramarital relationship with the suspect.
