TMC questions Modi Govt inaction regarding Himanta Biswa Sarma’s alleged ties to Kuki insurgents

Guwahati: Assam All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Ripun Bora expressed his frustration with the Central Government’s lack of action in launching an investigation into the suspected ties between BJP leader Ram Madhav and a terrorist organisation in a series of tweets on June 15.

Bora questions the credibility of the Indian government in a tweet since it frequently uses government agencies like the CBI and ED to target opposition figures. Then why is GOI silent on the allegations of Assam CM Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma being involved with Kuki militants in the Manipur election in 2017? urged the NIA to look into the accusations and Sarma’s detention under the NSA Act.

Meanwhile, he added that Sarma no longer has the right to serve in that capacity as the BJP’s convenor of the North-East Democratic Alliance (NEDA), given his connections to terrorist groups. He should resign immediately.

It should be noted that a 2019 letter from a leader of one of the Kuki militant outfits to Union Home Minister Amit Shah surfaced in the midst of ethnic clashes between the Meitai and Kuki communities in Manipur. In the letter, it was claimed that the BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma and Ram Madhav, who was in charge of the North East at the time, had enlisted the aid of Kuki Militant organisations in 2017 to win the Assembly election.

The letter was annexed as one of the Annexures to an affidavit submitted on June 8, 2023 in an NIA Court by SS Haokip, the chairman of the Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF).
