3,500 tourists in Sikkim who were stuck due to landslides rescued by Indian Army

Guwahati: 3,500 tourists were left stranded on Friday as a result of landslides brought on by severe, torrential rainfall throughout Sikkim.

Trishakti Corps, Indian Army, and Border Roads Organisation (BRO) soldiers sprang into action and laboured through the night in torrential rain and bad weather to construct a temporary passage over the flash flood region to aid the rescue of the tourists.

3,500 Tourists Are Rescued by the Indian Army from Sikkim Landslides

The tourists received assistance in crossing the river, hot meals, and medical attention.

Over 2000 tourists have been rescued till 3 pm on Saturday. While the evacuation of visitors would continue, efforts were being made to reestablish road connectivity. There are now tents and medical aid stations. Till the route is open for their continued travel, all support would be given to the tourists.

The Indian Army is proactive in helping tourists and the local community while securing the border in the Super High-Altitude regions of the Himalayas.
