Cyclone Biparjoy: Union HM Amit Shah to visit Affected Areas in Gujarat

Guwahati: According to Relief Commissioner Alok Kumar Pandey, Union Home Minister Amit Shah would travel to Kutch and Jakhau port in Gujarat on Saturday to assess the condition in areas impacted by Cyclone Biparjoy. The chief minister, Bhupendra Patel, and senior officials will also meet with the minister of the interior.

According to a home ministry official, the home minister would travel to Kutch to assess the situation in the cyclone-affected areas. According to a PTI report, Shah will first examine the affected areas from the air and travel to Mandvi and the Jakhau port in Kutch.

Amit Shah is also anticipated to visit individuals in cyclone-affected homes.

Later, the official added, he will also go to Bhuj’s Swami Narayan Temple to check on the distribution of food and other supplies to those impacted.

Many people were displaced by the cyclone. Gujarat has seen the evacuation of more than a thousand people, according to NDRF DG Atul Karwal. He added that more than 4000 hoardings had been removed to prevent them from becoming dangerous flying objects in the event of high winds. According to the report, the typhoon also left numerous villages without power.

“The cyclone caused extensive financial loss to the state power utility – Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Limited – with 5,120 electricity poles getting damaged,” said Pandey told reporters in Gandhinagar on Thursday. The damage done includes 5,120 electricity poles, which has rendered over 4,600 villages without any power.

According to officials, 3,580 communities now have electricity again, while more than 1,000 still do not.

The cyclone’s effects have been seen in several areas of the nation. While the government has recorded no casualties in Gujarat, the storm in Mumbai has been blamed for the deaths of three people.

Rainfall started falling on Friday in Jalore, Sirohi, Barmer, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, and surrounding districts as the cyclone proceeded into Rajasthan in the shape of a deep depression, with wind speeds in some places reaching 40 to 50 km/h.

A “red alert” has been issued by the weather service for Saturday’s potential for extremely heavy rainfall in remote parts of Barmer, Jalore. While Jaisalmer, Rajsamand, Udaipur, and Dungarpur districts could experience severe rains, Jodhpur, Pali, and Sirohi are likely to experience very heavy rainfall.
