NCP Stage Protest Over Rise In Power Tariff & Water Pipe Explosion In Guwahati

Guwahati: A wave of protests led by the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) were held in Lakhidhar Bora Kshetra in Guwahati on Monday as locals voiced their displeasure over rising power prices and the scarcity of smart metres.

Reports claim that the protesters requested both the immediate removal of smart metres and a high-level probe into the recent water pipe explosion that seriously damaged property.

Furthermore, demonstrators demanded officials to swiftly address the region’s ongoing drinking water problem.

On June 13, Assam’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) members protested outside the Ulubari office of the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) in Guwahati.

They organised the protest to voice their displeasure with the outrageous increase in electricity prices. AAP activists gathered outside the APDCL headquarters, waving banners and posters with anti-government messages.

The installation of smart metres, which the party argued were unneeded and inconvenient for consumers, was their main point of criticism. They requested that the government immediately stop requiring the installation of these smart metres, citing customer harassment as a top issue.

AAP also criticised the government for breaking its pledge to provide a constant supply of electricity. They said that the administration had failed to live up to its commitment, disappointing the public and burdening them with expensive electricity bills.
