Congress in Assam Grapples with String of Resignations Amid Defections

The Congress party in Assam continues to grapple with a series of resignations, with the latest being Assam Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary Padmalochan Doley.

Doley tendered his resignation on April 9th, citing dissatisfaction with the party’s functioning, in a letter addressed to APCC president Bhupen Bora.

Amidst these resignations, Doley is anticipated to join the Bharatiya Janata Party during Union Minister Amit Shah’s rally in Lakhimpur today.

A significant number of party leaders and workers are also expected to formally join the saffron party on the same occasion.

A faction of party members has vehemently criticized the party’s alleged lack of transparency and has vowed to respond accordingly in the days to come.

They have voiced their discontent with the party’s perceived prioritization of power-centric politics over values-based governance.

The ongoing defections and internal discord pose significant challenges for the Congress in Assam, raising concerns about its ability to maintain cohesion and effectiveness in the political arena.
