Amidst the enforcement of election code of conduct for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, significant amounts of cash have been confiscated in separate incidents in Karimganj district on April 10.
According to sources, a Bolero vehicle with registration number AS08A0614 was intercepted at the Naka point in Keotkuna, Karimganj. Subsequent to a thorough search, authorities recovered a total cash amount of Rs. 22,95,500 from the vehicle, leading to the detention of an individual in connection to the incident.
Meanwhile, in a proactive measure to ensure compliance with election conduct rules, the Flying Squad in Bongaigaon district has been maintaining a vigilant watch over various routes. During routine checks today, a significant discovery was made.
Under the election conduct guidelines, individuals carrying more than Rs. 50,000 in cash without valid documentation are not permitted to proceed further. This regulation has been widely publicized to ensure adherence. Consequently, the Flying Squad conducted inspections, leading to the interception of a vehicle with registration number AS 26AC 0747.
Upon inspection, an individual identified as Ali was found in possession of a substantial sum of Rs. 1,57,640 in cash, lacking the necessary documentation. In compliance with election regulations, the cash has been seized and secured in the treasury.
