Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma Praises Assam CM’s Efforts in Border Dispute Resolution

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma recently addressed the public in Athiabari along the Assam-Meghalaya border, praising his Assamese counterpart, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, for his practical approach towards resolving the border dispute between the two states.

Sangma commended Sarma’s efforts, stating that they have led to a significant number of previously Assam-based villages merging with Meghalaya. Despite the complexity of the issue, Sangma assured the public that negotiations are ongoing and efforts are being made to accommodate villages that wish to merge with Meghalaya.

During an election rally for the Shillong Lok Sabha Constituency’s NPP Candidate Dr. Ampareen Lyngdoh, Sangma emphasized the joint demarcation survey initiated to find a solution to the border issue. He highlighted Sarma’s understanding of the Northeast region and his commitment to resolving the problem.

Sangma also acknowledged the presence of opposition parties in the Lok Sabha election but asserted that the NPP remains a strong opposition against all political parties. He expressed confidence in winning both the Tura and Shillong Lok Sabha seats, emphasizing the NPP’s dedication to development and providing alternatives to voters.

Regarding the INC candidate Vincent H. Pala, Sangma acknowledged his hold in the constituency but noted that people now have options for development, with the NPP presenting itself as a viable choice. Sangma emphasized the need for change after Pala’s 15-year tenure as the sitting MP.
