Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to lead a campaign rally in Nalbari, Assam, ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024. The rally, slated for April 17, underscores the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) efforts to consolidate support in the region.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed confidence in the BJP’s electoral prospects, predicting victory in 13 out of 14 seats in the state. Sarma highlighted Dhubri as a competitive constituency and pledged to visit the area after April 19.
In a bold assertion, Sarma projected significant margins of victory for BJP candidates in Dibrugarh and Jorhat constituencies. He also announced PM Modi’s forthcoming rally in Nalbari to campaign for Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) candidate Phani Bhushan Choudhury in the Barpeta constituency.
Sarcastically commenting on the visits of Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, Sarma welcomed their presence, suggesting it would boost BJP’s voter base. He reiterated his readiness to assist them if needed, implying their negligible impact compared to Modi’s popularity.
Sarma’s candid remarks reflect the prevailing sentiment in Assam’s political landscape, characterized by BJP’s dominance and Congress defections to the ruling party. His assertion of Modi’s unmatched popularity resonates with the electorate’s preference for the Prime Minister over other political figures, underscoring BJP’s strong position in Assam’s electoral dynamics.
