Assam Braces for Turbulent Weather Conditions from April 15-18, Heavy Rainfall Expected

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has issued a statement, cautioning Assam residents about turbulent weather conditions anticipated from April 15 to 18, 2024.

The state is on alert due to a cyclonic circulation hovering over North Bangladesh and its surrounding regions, combined with moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal.Assam is expected to encounter thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds, and scattered to widespread rainfall during this period, with heavy rainfall predicted for April 16 and 17.

On April 14, isolated areas may experience light to moderate rainfall, with a heightened probability of thunderstorms and lightning across various districts including Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, Tamulpur, Hojai, East Karbianglong, and Golaghat.

Moving to April 15, isolated thunderstorms and lightning strikes are anticipated across districts such as Baksa, Nalbari, Bajali, Tamulpur, Kamrup(M), Darang, Udalguri, East Karbianglong, West Karbianglong, Golaghat, Sonitpur, Bishwanath, and Lakhimpur. Some areas may also witness light to moderate rainfall.

April 16 is likely to bring light to moderate rainfall across several locations in Assam, with heavy rainfall expected in isolated areas over districts including Goalpara, Bongaigaon, Darang, and Udalguri.

On April 17, light to moderate rainfall is forecasted across many areas, with isolated heavy rainfall possible in districts like Goalpara, Bongaigaon, Sonitpur, Bishwanath, Majuli, and Dibrugarh. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds may occur in isolated locations.

Finally, on April 18, isolated thunderstorms and lightning are expected over districts like Jorhat, Majuli, Sibsagarh, Charaideo, Dibrugarh, and Tinsukia, along with mild to moderate rainfall in several areas.

Assam authorities are advising residents to stay informed about weather updates and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during this period of turbulent weather conditions.
